Command Biographies
MALS-26 Commanding Officer
Colonel Matthew J. Grabowski

Colonel Grabowski is a native of Montana and grew up in Spokane, Washington and Greenwich, Connecticut. He attended Eastern Washington University where he received his Bachelors in Marketing and commissioned on March 29, 2002. Upon completion of The Basic School, he attended the Aviation Maintenance Officer Course. He was then assigned to a variety of fleet billets at Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 16 and deployed to Iraq in 2004.

In May 2006, Colonel Grabowski was assigned as the Operations Officer and later the Executive Officer for Marine Corps Recruiting Station Seattle Washington, 12th Marine Corps District (12MCD). In May 2009, he finished his tour on recruiting and was transferred to MALS-39 at Camp Pendleton, California.

In June 2009, Colonel Grabowski served as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer for Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 in Camp Pendleton, California. In March of 2010 he detached from MALS-39 to fill an augment billet for MALS-16 in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He served as the DET Officer in Charge and the AAMO for six months. In September 2010, Colonel Grabowski returned from Kandahar and served as the Power Plants Officer, Airframes Officer and Ground Support Equipment Officer. In May of 2011 he took over as the Operations Officer of MALS-39.

In February 2012, Colonel Grabowski served as District Training Team Officer and Assistant to Enlisted Recruiting for the 1st Marine Corps District in Garden City, New York.

From August 2015 to June 2016, Colonel Grabowski attended Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia. After graduation, he was assigned as the Operations Officer for MALS-26 in New River, North Carolina.

In 2017, Colonel Grabowski was hand selected by 2d Marine Aircraft Wing Commanding General to fill the Aviation Maintenance Officer billet for Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264, which had never been filled by a Ground Aviation Maintenance Officer. After generating 10 Ready Basic Aircraft and helping to qualify the squadron to deploy, he detached from VMM-264 and reported back to MALS-26 as the Operations Officer.

In May 2018, Colonel Grabowski checked into the 4th Marine Corps District to serve and the Operations Officer and the Executive Officer. He earned his Master of Business Administration Degree in August of 2020.

In June 2021, Colonel Grabowski reported to the 12th Marine Corps District where he served as the Executive Officer. In May 2022, he reported to MALS-26 to take Command.

Colonel Grabowski's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal in Lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in Lieu of fourth award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of second award.
