On 7 July 1987, Sergeant Major Christopher L. Edmondson reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, and graduated recruit training on 14 October 1987. He was then sent to Communications School at 29 Palms, California, graduating on 20 December 1987.

In January 1988, Private First Class Edmondson reported to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC, where he was assigned to the Communications platoon as a Field Radio Operator, January 1988 to June 1990. He was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in December 1988.

In July 1990, Corporal Edmondson transferred to 1st Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, and was assigned as a Field Radio Operator for 1st Platoon. During this tour, he deployed to Desert Storm and Desert Shield as the senior communicator.

In June 1991, Corporal Edmondson transferred to Marine Corps Security Forces Company, Kings Bay Georgia for assignment as a Marine Security Guard. He was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant in June of 1992. From June 1991 to August 1994, Sergeant Edmondson served as a Corporal of the Guard, Sergeant of the Guard, Orientation instructor and Special Reaction Platoon Sergeant.

In September 1994 Sergeant Edmondson transferred to Okinawa, Japan for duty as a Field Radio Operator with Marine Air Support Squadron Two on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. Sergeant Edmondson was selected for Staff Sergeant in 1996.

In September 1996 Sergeant Edmondson transferred to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia for duty as the Radio Chief for Command and Control Systems School. In January 1997 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He served as Radio Chief from 1996 to November 1999.

In December 1999, he transferred to Headquarters & Service Company, Third Marine Regiment in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii as a Radio Supervisor for the Communication Platoon. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in March 2000; he transferred in December 2000 to Third Battalion Third Marines in Kaneohe Bay and served as the Radio Chief.

In December 2002 after returning from the Unit Deployment Program with Third Battalion Third Marines, Gunnery Sergeant Edmondson departed Hawaii. In January of 2003, he reported for duty as the Radio Chief at Chemical, Biological Incident Response Force in Indian Head, Maryland. He was selected for the rank of First Sergeant in March 2003. He was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in May 2003 and reported for duty as the First Sergeant of Marine Security Forces Company, Patuxent River, Maryland within the same month. In September of 2006 the Security Forces
Company was disestablished and he transferred to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for duty.

In October 2006, he was assigned as the First Sergeant for Supply Company, 2d Supply Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group. In February of 2007 First Sergeant Edmondson deployed to Al Taquadam, Iraq with 2d Maintenance Battalion. Upon his return in September 2007, he was assigned as the RBE Sergeant Major for 2d Supply Battalion. He was selected to his present rank in November of 2007. Sergeant Major Edmondson reported for duty with HMM-264 in January of 2008. In August 2008 Sergeant Major Edmondson deployed with HMM-264(REIN) as the ACE Sergeant Major for the 26th MEU. After the squadrons return in March of 2009 the squadron was redesignated as a MV-22 Osprey squadron. In March of 2010 Sergeant Major Edmondson transferred to MAG-49 Det A in Warner Robins, Ga. to assume the duties of MAG-49 Sergeant Major. In March of 2013 Sergeant Major Edmondson transferred to 2D MAW to assume the duties of MAG-26 Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Edmondson’s’ awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal w/1 gold star in lieu of second award, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with one silver star and two bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal with one
bronze star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one silver star and one bronze star.
