Sergeant Major Reconnu enlisted in the Marine Corps on 2 March 1993 and attended basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. 

Private Reconnu was promoted to Private First Class on 1 September 1993 and was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal on 2 September 1993 after graduating first in his class at the Motor Vehicle Operators’ Course aboard Camp Johnson, North Carolina.  Lance Corporal Reconnu was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2d Marines, 2d Marine Division in September 1993.  During this tour, he deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 1994 where he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of JTF-160 in support of Operation Sea Signal in 1995, and Okinawa, Japan in 1996 where he was promoted to Sergeant. 

In March 1997, Sergeant Reconnu was transferred to Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division as the Division Licensing Examiner and Roadmaster. 

In January 1998, Sergeant Reconnu was ordered to Drill Instructor Duty at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina where he was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.  Upon completion of this tour, he was transferred to 8th Communication Battalion, II MEF Headquarters Group in May 2001.

While assigned to 8th Communication Battalion, Staff Sergeant Reconnu deployed to OIF I in January 2003 with Task Force Tarawa.  Following this deployment, he was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and was ordered to Logistics Operations School at Camp Johnson, North Carolina in May 2004.

While at Logistics Operations School, Gunnery Sergeant Reconnu held the billets of Academics Chief and Team Leader for the Operations Instruction Team. He became a Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools Master Instructor in April 2007.  Gunnery Sergeant Reconnu finished this tour as the SNCOIC of the Logistics Operations School Forming Platoon.

In March 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Reconnu was frocked to First Sergeant and reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2d MLG for duty with Food Service Company.  In September 2008, First Sergeant Reconnu was transferred to Military Police Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27 and reported to 2d Supply Battalion where the company stood up as Security Company for the Battalions’ deployment to OIF 9.2.  Upon returning from deployment, First Sergeant Reconnu returned to Combat Logistics Regiment 27 where he was assigned to Landing Support Company.

In April 2010, First Sergeant Reconnu reported to Raleigh, North Carolina for duty as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant for Supply Company (-), 4th Supply Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, Marine Forces Reserve.

In April 2013, First Sergeant Reconnu was frocked to Sergeant Major and reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2d MLG where he assumed the duties of IG Sergeant Major and was subsequently ordered to Combat Logistics Battalion 24 for duty as the Battalion Sergeant Major where he deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In December 2015, Sergeant Major Reconnu reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron 204, Marine Air Group 26 for duty as the Squadron Sergeant Major.
