Major Brandon C. Oberkamp

Major Brandon Oberkamp enlisted into the Selected Marine Corps Reserve in June of 1999, attending basic training at MCRD San Diego January 2000.  During his 6 years of service within the SMCR, he attended the University of Kansas and American Intercontinental University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in December 2005.  He then attended Officer Candidates School in January 2006 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in March of 2006.

After The Basic School, he reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Group (MATSG) 21, Pensacola, Florida and was designated a Naval Aviator and helicopter pilot in September 2008.  He then reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron (HMLAT) 303, Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 39, at MCAS Camp Pendleton, California for training in the AH-1W Super Cobra.  His first fleet assignment was with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 367 from 2009 to 2012.  During this period he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) from October 2009 to May 2010.  After returning from OEF he began the AH-1Z series conversion.  He was then transferred to HMLA-267, along with AH-1Z aircraft to support their series conversion.  In 2013 he deployed with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) Reinforced (REIN) 166 as part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  Following his return in 2014 he reported to HMLAT-303 for duties as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor, where he served from 2014 to 2016.

Major Oberkamp reported to Marine Special Operation Company (MSOC) Bravo, 1st Marine Raider Battalion (MRB), from May 2016 to September 2018.  During this period he served as MSOC B Company Air Officer while deploying as the Operations Officer for a Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) from June 2017 to January 2018.  After returning from deployment he served as the Battalion Air Officer for 1st MRB. 
 
In October 2018 Major Oberkamp reported to MAG-29 for duties as the AH-1Z Tactical Training Unit Officer in Charge, AH-1Z transition action officer and Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE) H-1 representative- assisting MAG-29 with transition from the legacy AH-1W Super Cobra to the upgraded AH-1Z Viper (Cobra) through January 2019.
 
Major Oberkamp’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Air Medal with Individual Action Numeral “1” and Strike/Flight Numeral "4” and the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal with bronze star in lieu of second award.
