VMM-261 Sergeant Major
Sergeant Major Joshua C. Wruble

Sergeant Major Wruble enlisted in the Marine Corps on 23 August 1994. Upon completion of recruit and infantry training, he was assigned to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines where he served as rifleman, fire team leader, and squad leader and deployed with the battalion in 1996 (22 MEU), 1997 (SPMAGTF) and 1998 (22 MEU). He conducted Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations during Operation Assured Response in Monrovia, Liberia, embassy reinforcement operations during Operation Quick Response in the Central African Republic, and detainee operations during Operation Present Haven in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

In 1999, he transferred to Officer Candidate School and assumed the duties of Physical Training Instructor (PTI) and tactics instructor.

In 2001, Sergeant Wruble joined 3d Battalion, 3d Marines where he served as squad leader, mortar section leader, platoon sergeant, and assistant operations chief. He deployed twice on the 31st MEU and to Afghanistan in 2004 for combat operations in the Kunar Province.

In 2005, Staff Sergeant Wruble reported to Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, SC and was assigned to Lima Company, Third Recruit Training Battalion. He served as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Series Gunnery Sergeant during his tour.

In 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Wruble transferred to 3d Battalion, 2d Marines where he served as Weapons Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant. He deployed in 2009 (26 MEU) and in 2010 to Haiti during Operation Unified Response.

Gunnery Sergeant Wruble reported to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines in 2012 for duty as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Weapons Company Operations Chief. He deployed in 2013 to Afghanistan for combat operations in the Helmand Province. Following the deployment, he was transferred to Advanced Infantry Training Battalion at SOI-East where he assumed the duties as SNCOIC and Chief Instructor for the Martial Arts Instructor Course.

In 2014, he was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and reported to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for duty as the Senior Enlisted Leader. In 2016, he reported as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Company, Europe in Rota, Spain. In May, 2018, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and assumed the duties of Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Air Control Squadron 2.  In June 2020, he assumed the duties as VMM-261 Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Wruble holds an AA Degree in Supervision and Management and is pursuing a BA degree in history from Liberty University. He was designated as the Honor Graduate from the Sergeant’s Course, Drill Instructor School, and the SNCOA Advanced Course. He is a 2nd degree Martial Arts Instructor Trainer and was also the recipient of the Distinguished Writing Award from the Marine Corps Association in 2017.

Sergeant Major Wruble’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 gold star), Navy Commendation Medal (2 gold stars), Navy Achievement Medal (3 gold stars) and the Combat Action Ribbon (1 gold star).
