Sergeant Major Enrique Gato

Sergeant Major Gato is a native of Miami, Florida. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 13 September 1999 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Paris Island. After completing recruit training he reported for follow-on training at Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Geiger and Supply School, Camp Johnson, North Carolina, where he received the MOS of 3043, Supply Administration and was promoted meritoriously to Private First Class.

From March 2000 to February 2001, Private First Class Gato served with 3d Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group Supply, 3d Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. He served as Fiscal clerk and Warehouse Clerk. During his tour, Private First Class Gato was promoted meritoriously to Lance Corporal and participated in exercise Ultra Focus Lens in South Korea.

In February 2001, Lance Corporal Gato was transferred to Headquarters & Service Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, where he served as Warehouse Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge. In December of 2001, Lance Corporal Gato was promoted meritoriously to the rank of Corporal.  Corporal Gato requested orders to Marine Security Guard School and graduated in September 2002 with the MOS 8156. From September 2002 to May 2005, Corporal Gato served with Marine Security Guard Detachment, US Embassy Yaoundé, Cameroun, and US Embassy Lisbon, Portugal, where he served as Watch Stander. In December of 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In February of 2005, Sergeant Gato received orders to Inspector & Instructor Staff, Echo Co (-), Anti-Terrorism Battalion, Tallahassee, Florida, where he served as the Supply Chief, Communications Chief, Motor Transportation Chief and Color Sergeant. In April of 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.  From August 2007 to September 2010 Staff Sergeant Gato served with 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as Supply Chief, Platoon Sergeant and Forward Command Element Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge. He deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan from February 2008 to November 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Staff Sergeant Gato deployed from January 2010 through August 2010 with the USS Nassau Amphibious Strike Group participating in humanitarian operations in Port-o-Prince, Haiti.

In the summer of 2010, Staff Sergeant Gato requested orders to serve as a Faculty Advisor and was assigned to Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During his tour, he served as Faulty Advisor for Career Course and Advance Course. In February of 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In April of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Gato transferred to Marine Corps Recruiting Station Salt Lake City, Utah where he served as Logistics Chief and Family Readiness Officer.

In March 2016 Gunnery Sergeant Gato was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to 3d Battalion, 7th Marines. Serving as The Company First Sergeant for Company L and Headquarters & Service Company, he deployed in September 2016 and April 2018 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve with SPMAGTF CR CC 17.1 and 18.2
