VMM-266 Sergeant Major
Sergeant Major Trevor A. Highsmith

Trevor Highsmith entered the United States Marine Corps on 9 June 1997 where he attended Basic Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. On 5 September 1997 he graduated boot camp and completed to Marine Combat Training at Camp Lejeune, NC 22 October 1997, Sergeant Major Highsmith then attended Basic Warehouseman School at Camp Johnson, Camp Lejeune, NC where he earned the MOS of 3051 “Basic Warehouseman”.  During this time he was promoted to the rank of Private First Class (meritoriously). 

After completing Supply School at Camp Johnson, Camp Lejeune, NC in November 1997, he reported to 3rd Supply Battalion. Here he worked as a basic warehouseman at Supply Company Storage Section. While assigned to 3rd Supply Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In November 1998, he reported to MHG Supply, III MEF Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. While at MHG Supply he was deployed to operation Cobra Gold 99 in Thailand. During his tour in Okinawa, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. In 1999, he then received orders to Supply Services Headquarters Battalion Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC.

Corporal Highsmith arrived at MCRD, PISC in December 1999. Once there he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as the NCOIC of Initial Issue Phase 1 and Training NCO. Sergeant Highsmith was screened for recruiting duty and was deemed highly qualified. He then received orders to Recruiting School Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA and in April 2002 he report to recruiters school.    

Upon completion of Recruiters School, In July 2002 Sergeant Highsmith was transferred to Recruiting Station Chicago, Chicago, IL.  There he served as a Canvasing Recruiter at Recruiting Sub-Station Chicago Heights in Chicago Heights, IL. Sergeant Highsmith completed 36 months of Recruiting and was immediately promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (meritoriously).  He served at this command from June of 2002 to May of 2005. 

In May 2005 Staff Sergeant Highsmith received orders to Okinawa, Japan, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.  There he served as the Warehouse Chief and Platoon Sergeant of Battalion Supply.  Also, during this tour he attended Career Course, Ground Supply Chief’s Course, and deployed in support of Balikatan 06 and Cobra Gold 07.  In November 2007 Staff Sergeant Highsmith then requested orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC to attend Drill Instructor School.

After graduating from Drill Instructor School in March 2008, he was assigned to 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, MCRD Parris Island, SC.  In April 2008 Staff Sergeant Highsmith checked in to Echo Company,  where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Series Gunnery Sergeant and Chief Drill Instructor. During this tour he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. In May 2011 Gunnery Sergeant Highsmith received orders to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing.

In June 2011 Gunnery Sergeant Highsmith returned to Okinawa and reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 4(MACS-4), Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and become MACS-4 Supply Warehouse Chief.  He did three years at MACS-4, traveling to Thailand for exercise Cobra Gold 12 and Korea, after getting selected to First Sergeant he received PCA orders to 3d Transportation Support Battalion(3d TSB), Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group. There, he was apart on the reactivation of 3d TSB and served as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.

Sergeant Major then received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 4, Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group he took over as Transportation Services Company First Sergeant where he participated in a number of exercises such as Balikatan 16, MEF-D 16, Winter Workhouse 17 and Cobra Gold 17.   In May 2017 he received PCS orders and transferred to 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton, California. Where he served as Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant until January 2019, then he was transferred to be the First Sergeant of Company B.  While in Company B, his Company deployed Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 20.1 in support of 4th Marine Regiment Okinawa, Japan.

After completing his UDP Sergeant Major Highsmith received orders to Security and Emergency Services Company, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations East MCB Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  Immediately upon arrival he was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major and received orders to Marine Attack Squadron 231 (VMA 231), Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing Cherry Point, North Carolina where he serves as the VMA 231 Squadron Sergeant Major.  In January 2022, Sergeant Major Highsmith received orders to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 266 and is currently serving as the Squadron Sergeant Major.  

Sergeant Major Highsmith’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars.
