Sergeant Major Kammer, a native of Tennessee, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in February 1998. After completion of Recruit Training at Marine Corp Recruit Depot Parris Island he reported for follow-on training at Marine Combat Training School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, North Carolina and was assigned to the avionics MOS of 6400.
In June 1998 Private First Class Kammer reported to NAS Pensacola where he graduated from NACC , S.E.R.E school and received orders to Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi for the MOS of 6492.
In April 1999 Lance Corporal Kammer reported to Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment School. Upon graduation, he received orders to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron (MALS) 11 in March of 2000.
In March 2001 Corporal Kammer deployed in support of Operation Southern Watch with VMFA Squadron 323 as the Precision Measurement Equipment NCOIC aboard the USS Constellation.
In March 2003 Sergeant Kammer requested orders to Drill Instructor School at Marine Corp Recruit Depot Parris Island and graduated with the MOS of 8511. He was then assigned to Charlie Company, First Recruit Training Battalion. During his tour, he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Marine Combat Water Survival Instructor and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Staff Sergeant Kammer received orders in May of 2006 to MALS 26, Marine Corps Air Station, New River. He was assigned as the Precision Measurement Equipment Chief and Quality Assurance SNCOIC. During his deployment, he served as QA Chief for MALS 29 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and HMM-365.
In April 2009 Gunnery Sergeant Kammer was transferred to MALS 29 as the Communication and Navigation SNCOIC. Gunnery Sergeant Kammer was selected for Assistant Marine Officer Instructor duty at the University of Memphis in August 2009. Additionally, he served as a Platoon Sergeant for Kilo Company, India Company and Sergeant Instructor for Delta Company during Officer Candidate School.
Gunnery Sergeant Kammer was promoted to First Sergeant on October 2012 and received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Okinawa Japan. During his assignment he served as the First Sergeant for Engineer Company A and was acting Sergeant Major during Korean Marine Exchange Program (KMEP) exercise. In October 2015 First Sergeant Kammer received orders to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, Camp Lejeune. During his tour, he deployed as the Ground Combat Element First Sergeant in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa and acting Sergeant Major during Mountain Exercise (MTX) in 2017.
Sergeant Major Kammer was promoted to his current rank in October 2017 and received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 8 were he served as the Sergeant Major from October 2017 to October 2018.
Sergeant Major Kammer reported as the Sergeant Major for Combat Logistics Battalion 26 on October 2018. During his tour he deployed as the Logistics Combat Element Sergeant Major from December 2019 to July 2020 in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit deployment.
In August 2020, Sergeant Major Kammer transferred to Marine Aircraft Group-26 where he is currently serving as the MAG Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Kammer's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with one Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star.
